PATIALA: Y.S.Ratra, IAS(Retd.), chairman , Punjab State Electricity Board on Tuesday said in order to provide reliable electricity supply, Punjab State Electricity Board is making continuous efforts to improve transmission system.

Losses are being reduced which saves board significant amount of money. Ratra disclosed that just by reducing losses by 1%, board saves about Rs.100 crores annually.

Ratra informed that during 2007-08 capacity of 7 no. 220KV Sub Stations has been increased by 150.50MVA, capacity of 9no. 132KV Sub Stations has been increased by 132.50MVA and of 77no. 66KV Sub Stations by 527.05MVA thereby making a total increase in capacity of 888.05MVA in the system. Out of this 182.75MVA capacity has been added by commissioning 18no. new sub stations.

Ratra further disclosed that in the year 2008-09 till the month of November, capacity of 516MVA has been added at 6 no. 220KV Sub Stations, 32.5MVA at 2 no. 132KV Sub Stations and 314.5MVA at 30 no. 66KV Sub Stations. With this addition, Board has added another 867.5MVA in the system which includes 241MVA through 19 no. newly commissioned Sub Stations. The total capacity of PSEB has been enhanced to 27430.5MVA.

He said that further to reduce transmission losses board has added 10.860MVAR capacitor banks of 66KV and 42.191MVAR capacitor banks of 11KV in year 2009-09 till November end. With this board has been able to reduce losses by 4% thereby saving board crores of Rupees annually.

Y.S.Ratra said that board is maintaining huge network of its sub stations and transmission lines very well. A total of 47no. 220KV sub stations, 77 no. 132KV sub stations, 473 no. 66KV sub stations & 87 no. 33KV sub stations and 4424.458KM of 220KV lines, 3067.548KM of 132KV lines & 6138.584KM of 66KV lines are being maintained and obsolete equipments are regularly being replaced with new ones so that reliable and uninterrupted power supply can be provided to Punjab State electricity consumers.
