Power position likely to improve in Punjab

ROPAR: The power position in Punjab improved on wednesday afternoon with the revival of unit 3 of Ropar thermal plant.
The demand of power in Punjab was 918 lakh units against supply of 789 lakh units. The thermal units in the state generated 483 lakh units. The shortage of 129 lakh units had forced the PSEB to increase power cuts for more than 6 hours a day in cities.
210 Mw unit of Ropar thermal plant which was producing 50 lakh units tripped on some technical fault on Monday. When the unit was lighted up it was noticed that water has entered the turbine from gland sealing. When the unit was boxed up and the barring gear of turbine stopped and it took a day to again put the turbine on barring gear.The unit was lighted up today morning after the fault was attended. The unit started generation in the afternoon. According to sources lack of co-ordination was one of the causes of fault.
