PSEB engineers protest decision of PSPCL/PSTCL
Patiala: The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Engineers’ Association has condemned the recent decision of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) managements about prior sanction of the Punjab government for upgradation and creation of posts, undermining the autonomy of the power companies, which is against the concept of creating corporate entities to grant it full freedom for running its affairs to provide efficient service to consumers.
PSEB Engineers’ Association president Baldev Singh Sran and General Secretary Sanjeev Sood said here on Sunday that to represent the state government’s point of view, two government nominees that is Power Secretary and Finance Secretary have been inducted in the Board of Directors of both the companies and even then sending any issue to state government for decision is just a ploy of the management to stall the implementation of proposals for betterment of consumer service.
The PSEB Engineers’ Association also criticised the lopsided policy of the PSPCL management of not creating the adequate infrastructure for strengthening of transmission and distribution system to ensure quality supply and service to consumers. 5,000 MW of generation is likely to be added in the state in the next couple of years and matching sub-transmission or transmission and distribution. The other infrastructure is required to be created on war footing, for evacuating the additional generation.
They said the additional power will not reach the general public in case adequate transmission and distribution system is not created immediately.DP
