DISCOMS WATCH PUNJAB MODEL

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana power distribution utilities are planning to replicate Punjab's model for power distribution to minimise interruptions in supply, improve voltage, eliminate the problem of overloading, and minimise supply- related complaints and possibility of accidents.
Electrical engineers from Punjab made a representation giving details of the model and its results, a release said.
Senior officers of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam ( DHBVN) on Monday discussed the model in a meeting chaired by Devender Singh, chairman and managing director ( CMD), DHBVN and UHBVN. He said the model would be finalised after discussion with senior officers of the nigams and government. " The new proposal will benefit consumers as they would get power with better voltage." The new system would help villagers to reduce aggregate technical and commercial losses to less than 25%, bringing power supply in rural areas on a par with urban centres under a scheme launched by the discoms recently, the release said.
The gains of the low- cost model was highlighted.
