On the call of PSEB Engineers' Association, Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Power Plant, Ropar, a one-hour gate rally was held against the outgoing general manager of the plant and the board management.
Over 70 engineers attended the rally. Senior vice-president SC Chabba and member of the executive committee Rajinder Saini addressed the rally. They lamented that they had been forced to adopt agitation path which could had been avoided had the board management stopped outgoing general manager KK Sood from indulging into wrong practises.
The engineers highlighted before management about the outgoing GM’s habit of shirking responsibility, delaying of sanctions relating to engineers personal matters and running administration from office only and not visiting site to make an on-the-spot assessment of the problem.
In March 2009, through a memorandum signed by more than 150 engineers, the management was told that the GM was threatening the engineers of spoiling their ACRs and a request was made to restrain the GM from writing their ACRs.
Chabba said that despite all this, the outgoing GM was allowed to play with rules by delaying submission of ACRs almost to last day of his retirement and in process misuse his authority by downgrading ACRs of competent engineers. This fact came to fore after the engineers sought their ACRs under the Right to Information Act.
The engineers resolved to continue with their protest for a week and go for a two-hour walkout if their demands were not accepted.
The engineers also demanded action against the outgoing GM for flouting rules and misusing of authority by downgrading the ACRs on personal grounds and ignoring the achievements and capabilities of the officials. They have also urged the management to quash ACRs written by the GM for 2008-09.
