Patiala, September 3
Council of Junior Engineers, Punjab State Electricity Board, at its urgent meeting today decided to oppose the unbundling of the board.
Sukhdev Singh, patron, and Davinder Singh, general secretary of the council, said members of the council from all over Punjab would participate in a state-level protest being held in front of the PSEB head office in Patiala on September 4.
The council demanded that the state government should review its policy with regard to unbundling of the PSEB in view of the recent decision of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, the highest dispute redressal forum for electricity laws.
The tribunal held that it was not mandatory to unbundled PSEB to separate distribution, transmission and generation under the Electricity Act, 2003.
The council also warned that in case the government still decided to unbundled the PSEB, junior engineers would proceed on strike, a notice in this regard had been served to the authorities concerned.
