Power-cuts to continue in state
Nidhi Singhi, TNN 16 September 2009
LUDHIANA: Power cuts would continue in the state for more some days as the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has decided to provide 8 hours
uninterrupted power supply to the farmers for paddy. Despite incessant showers for two days during last week, the condition of power is same in the state and the department is still imposing around 7-8 hours power cuts daily.
Though, the department is trying hard to meet the demand of electricity, despite several attempts they are unable to do so and consequently, the residents continue reeling under long power cuts. Not only this, for the past few days, the residents have been complaining of erratic power supply and sudden fluctuations that was damaging their home appliances. Few residents also remained troubled with the passing of high voltage current through their buildings.
“Power cuts have already made a mess of our lives and moreover, these fluctuations and high-low voltage is damaging our home appliances,” says Sharda Sethi. She said that there was a sudden fluctuation in the electricity on Tuesday afternoon, which damaged the tubelights, fans and mobile battery in her house. She said it could prove fatal too.
Though, the PSEB officials admit such problems, they feel it could be related to some particular area. They said it might be due to short circuit in any wire or some electricity connections may be loose. They suggested instead of creating panic, the residents should immediately contact the XEN or other higher officials so that they could rectify the problem.
While talking to TOI, JS Bedi deputy chief engineer (headquarters) PSEB said that the residents would have to wait for 20 more days as they have to provide 8 hours continuous power to farmers for paddy.
He asserted that since there was no rainfall this week, the demand for electricity had risen, thus the power cuts.
“After 20 days the situation would definitely improve. And, regarding fluctuation and current in buildings, it might be due to some technical reason. So, it would be better for the residents to consult the XEN of the area to rectify the problem,” he added.
