Chinese company to build- 1,980 MW Talwandi Sabo thermal plant

PATIALA : Vedanta Group Company Sterlite Energy Ltd, which has got contract for 1,980 MW Talwandi Sabo thermal plant, has given the engineering and construction task of the plant to a Chinese company Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation (SPECO).

Official sources said here on Wednesday that ‘SEPCO’ is an Electric Power Construction Corporation based in east China's Shandong Province has got the order for the Engineering Plant and Construction.

Notably, SEPCO has already been working for Sterlite for its projects in Orissa and other parts of the country since 2006.

Sterlite has already got the extension form the PSEB for completion of the financial closure of this project by December 2009.

PSEB has planned to add another 3,800 MW of additional thermal power generation capacity by 2014 against present thermal capacity of 2,700 MW.

Meanwhile, PSEB has got response from 6 companies for obtaining environmental clearance and no objection certificate for the 1,000-Mw gas-based power project in the existing premises of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant (GGSSTP), in Ropar.

Companies who have shown interest were including TCE Consulting Engineers Ltd, Kirloskar Consultants Ltd and Desein Pvt Ltd, Mantec Pvt Ltd, Ramky Enviro Pvt Ltd and Mahabal Enviro Engineers Pvt Ltd have submitted bids to Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) for rendering consultancy and services. The tender would be awarded to the eligible bidders very soon, said sources.

PSEB proposed to award work to well established, experienced and financially sound bidder. This included the work of carrying out EIA studies, conducting public hearing, obtaining NOC from various departments, or any other study and input required for environmental clearance of the project, informed sources
