Patiala -According to the PSEB, small tips can help students learn judicious use of energy and fight power crisis.
In an effort to spread awareness regarding judicious use of energy, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) is trying to rope in school authorities to target students. The Board has already asked the schools to use CFLs and is also organizing special seminars in school premises to create awareness among students. The department has consulted the educational institutes to allow them arrange seminars on energy saving in their schools, and in the city PSEB has already conducted two such seminars.
The chairman of the Board is himself taking keen interest in the initiative and is addressing students at these seminars. On December 14 there would be a state-level seminar for schools on energy conservation where around 700 delegates are expected to participate.HS Randhawa, deputy chief engineer, PSEB, said they are trying to create awareness among students so that they may make judicious use of energy.
Whereas use of CFLs in classrooms has been suggested as the easiest way to reduce consumption of power, the department is also preparing teachers to motivate students to switch off lights and fans in their classrooms as well as in their homes when not in use.
According to the department, small tips can help students learn judicious use of energy and fight power crisis. These days the department has been able to reduced the margin between demand and supply of power due to decline in demand for energy from agriculture sector and change in the weather. Decline in use of air-conditioners has also enabled the department to save around 1,500 megawatt of energy and now power cuts are also under control. But the comfortable situation may not continue for too long, and that is where long-term strategies like awareness drives would certainly prove helpful, and a good beginning has already been made through schools.
