ALLAHABAD: Rihand Super Thermal Power Project of NTPC Limited has been awarded strong commitment to excel CII-ITC sustainability award-2009, in large business category at the CII-ITC sustainability award function held in New Delhi recently. The award was presented to Manash Sarkar, general manager, NTPC-Rihand by Jairam Ramesh, union minister for environment and forest.

Sarkar congratulated the employees for the remarkable achievement and called upon them to continue the pursuit of excellence in all walks of their activities.

The sustainability awards, instituted by the CII-ITC centre of excellence for sustainable development (CESD) in 2006 are a unique initiative to identify and recognise Indian business for their exemplary performance in economic, social and environmental dimensions of all their imperatives.

For green power development, NTPC-Rihand is generating power with minimum fuel consumption by adopting state-of-art technology in power plant operation and focusing on renewable power generation in future. To make green plant NTPC-Rihand has already planted more than 19.05 lakh trees till date. Ash water recycling system & liquid waste treatment plant are in operation and in ash utilisation, this plant has achieved 68.60% in 2008-09. Real time monitoring of environmental parameters (AAQMS) are already installed.
