Power engineers condemn move to privatise
TNN 30 November 2009,
LUCKNOW: Power engineers under the aegis of UP Rajya Vidyut Parishad Abhiyanta Sangh observed `Sankalp Diwas' on Sunday. It was 30 years ago on November 29, when the entire power engineer fraternity had gone on a strike in protest of the state government policies vis-a-vis power sector.
Speaking on the occasion, secretary general of All India Power Engineers Association, Shailendra Dubey said that attempts to privatise power companies have been a failure all over the country. He said that the state government should refrain from privatising and giving power distribution system to private companies under the franchise system.
The association said that power happens to be a technical subject and so instead of being put under control of bureaucrats, it should be fully managed by the engineers.
