Patiala: All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has sought the intervention of Prime Minister in appointment of S Pandey as new Chairman of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) and CBI enquiry in to the corruption cases against S Biswas.

It may be mentioned that S Pandey , whose name was forwarded by Rajasthan Government ,was selected as Chairman DVC by Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC). Rajasthan Government did not relieve him to join new post and Ministry of Power recommended S Biswas, second candidate in panel, asChairman without Central Vigilance Commissions clearance.

His appointment was cleared by ACC. CVC again wrote to Ministry of Power to review the decision after his joining as DVC Chairman.

Padamjit Singh chairman AIPEF has written a letter to Prime Minister that Ministry of Power had decided on November 27 last to remove S. Biswas as Chairman DVC but no formal orders has been issued so for since the clearance of Appointment committee of Cabinet is required.

This has resulted in to a piquant situation as the present incumbent chairman DVC is continuing on the post of Chairman DVC. Even though more than 55 days have elapsed since the Central Vigilance Commission asked to review the decision on October 10 as at least three cases were pending against him.

Padamjit has quoted the Prime Ministers statement on anti corruption day Corruption is the very anti-thesis of good governance and is sad that this golden message has not been translated in to action so for.

Since the appointment of S Pandey by the Appointment committee of Cabinet is still a valid selection it has appealed to Prime Minister to personally intervene and direct Rajasthan Government to relieve Pandey for his DVC assignment asChairman.

Padamjit pointed out in the letter that DVC is executing power projects of 5200 MW out of which 2500 MW is ear marked for the Commonwealth Games.

The Chandrapura units 7 &8 of 250 MW each which were to give power supply to Delhi from 2007 onwards have been hopelessly delayed over three years. The 2x500 MW units of Mejia Phase II are scheduled for operation in April and July 2010.

These units will certainly miss the target of Commonwealth Games, with one contributory factor being the uncertainty and practically a headless organisation
