First unit of Hisar thermal project synchronized

Hissar: The first 600 MW unit of the Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project near Hissar was synchronised with the grid in a record time of 35 months.
The unit was synchronized with oil firing by Bhupinder Singh Hooda Chief Minister Haryana on Tuesday . The unit was operating at about 40 MW.The coal firing of unit will start in third week of January and is likely to attain full load of 600 MW by January end.
The second unit was progressing as per schedule and it was expected to be commissioned by end March , said an official. Haryana would be adding 5,000 MW generation capacity during the 11th Five Year Plan period.
The first 500 MW unit of Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Station in Jhajjar is likely to be operational in July 2010.The power from this unit is to be used for common wealth games. The second and third units were expected to be commissioned in October 2010 and January 2011, respectively.
Sanjeev Kaushal, managing director of Haryana power generation corporation limited, said: 'An overall expenditure of Rs.3,111 crore has so far been incurred on the RGTPP against the total estimated cost of Rs.4,337 crore.
