Selection of BBMB Chairman delayed further

CHANDIGARH: The selection for the post of Chairman of the BBMB has been delayed further as one of the contenders represented against the other contender on the grounds that the official has less than the mandatory two years tenure.
The post of Chairman of the BBMB has been lying vacant since the retirement of U.C. Mishra on July 31, and MK Gupta Member Irrigation is holding the additional charge of Chairman BBMB.
The post of BBMB Chairman is necessarily to be from outside the partner states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chandigarh. The previous Chairman was from Power Grid and prior to him the Chairman was from Central Electricity Authority.
The selection committee has short listed two persons for post of Chairman and the case was sent to Appointment Committee of Cabinet, which is chaired by the Prime Minister. The recommended persons were SM Dhiman from CEA and Aggarwal from NHPC.
According to sources the NHPC official has represented against the candidate from CEA on the ground he has less than 2 years tenure left which is a requirement for the post.
According to sources the name of S M Dhiman has been cleared by Power Ministry .He is a power engineer and is working as Member Grid operation and distribution in Central Electricity Authority. The sources claimed that the Ministry had taken note of less than two years tenure of Dhiman while recommending his name. The case has been sent to the PM to take a final decision.
Punjab is pressing for the early posting of BBMB Chairman as they are opposed to Member Irrigation belonging to Haryana holding additional charge of Chairman.
