Jhajjar thermal plant’s 1st unit may see completion by July

Jhajjar: The prestigious 1,500 (3X500) mw Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project being set up in Jhajjar is steadily progressing towards completion. Secretary (power), H S Brahma and SN Dash, secretary (heavy industries) reviewed the progress of the project on Tuesday.
Giving details about the project, Madhusudan Prasad, financial commissioner and principal secretary (power) Haryana said that the construction work of this mega status project is progressing as per schedule.
Considering the progress of construction activities, Brahma has called upon the officers of NTPC to ensure the synchronisation of the first 500 mw unit of the project before July 2010, well in time to cater to the power requirements of Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi. Haryana will get 250 mw produced from this unit.
The second 500-mw unit is expected to be synchronised during December. Prasad also said total estimated project cost is Rs 7,892 crore and since commencement of construction, an expenditure of about Rs 3,277 crore has been incurred on the project. Prasad also took up the issue of stage-II expansion project of 2x500 mw units at the same site with Brahma and NTPC. He said 30 cusecs of water would be required additionally for the expansion project and the terms of sharing of the additional power need to be discussed. Haryana is providing precious water resource meant for irrigation and drinking water and requested for higher allocation of power, Prasad added. Brahma agreed with Prasad and assured that he will convene a meeting next month to decide the matter.
The project is the largest power generating project being set up in Haryana in joint venture between NTPC, HPGCL & Indraprastha Power Generation Corporation Ltd (IPGCL).
