Consumers facing long power cuts in Haryana

Kurukshetra: The consumers in Haryana are facing long power cuts as cold wave intensifies in the region and power demand increasing. The power shortage in Haryana has increased to more than 177 lakh units as restricted power demand has touched 850 lakh units. The power cuts in the main cities has increased to 6 to 8 hours and during power cut the water supply is affected both in morning and evening hours.

The power supply to agriculture sector is not more than 5 hours a day and formers are protesting in various parts of state as they need water for wheat sowing. The closure of two thermal units at Panipat due to technical faults has worsened the situation. 210 MW unit no. 5 of thermal plant is under shut down due to control valve problem. 110 MW unit no. 3 is down due to boiler leakage. According to sources both units are likely to be revived on Monday.

The thermal plants of state are producing 317 lakh units. The state is overdrawing 83 lakh units to tide over the present situation. Thepower demand met during peak hours is 4089 MW and there was shortage of 511 MW during this time.

Meanwhile coal stock in Panipat and Yamunanagar thermal plants is critical. Panipat thermal plant has 62000 MT of coal just sufficient for three days.The reason for coal shortage is higher generation.At yamunanagar thermal plant coalstock of 41000 MT is sufficient for four days due to coal unloading problems
