Lucknow:
Cracking the whip on defaulters, the state government on Tuesday directed the Energy department to disconnect power connections of non-paying consumers by January 31.
“The connections of all defaulters who consume five kilowatt or more power should be disconnected by January 31,” said Energy Minister Ramveer Upadhyaya at a review meeting in Lucknow.
He warned that FIRs would be lodged against consumers who use electricity on a previously disconnected line and stern action will be taken against the concerned staff.
“More than Rs 18,000 crore is due because of laxity on part of the department staff, especially engineers,” Upadhyaya said. The staff should not entertain any recommendation of influential people during the disconnection drive, he added.
Upadhyaya also directed the engineers to realise Rs 1,000 crore revenue this month.
