Orissa approves two thermal power projects

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government approved a proposal to set up a thermal power plant and allowed another project for capacity expansion, official sources said.
The two projects got nod of the State Level Single Window Clearance Committee (SLSWCC) headed by chief secretary T K Mishra.
The committee approved investment of Rs 300 crore by Maa Durga Thermal Power Limited for setting up a 60 MW capacity thermal power generation station at Tangi-Choudwar area in Cuttack district, said industries secretary S Garg.
Similarly, the proposal of GMR Energy Limited which had already signed MoU with the state government on June 9, 2006 for setting up a thermal power plant of 1050 MW capacity at Kamlang, to expand its capacity to 1400 MW was also approved, Gagrg said.
The company which had initially proposed to invest Rs 4,000 crore to set up a thermal power station of 1050 MW, would now invest Rs 6,000 crore for establishing 1400 MW power generation unit.
Besides, the 31st SLSWCC also discussed issues like land, water, raw material linkage and other matters related to setting up industries, Garg said.
