APGenco to add 1,210 MW; Rosaiah calls for action plan

APGenco is poised to add about 1,210 MW of additional capacity at its coal-based generating stations at Kothagudem, Rayalaseema and Bhupalapally thermal power stations by December this year.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Tuesday issued directions to APGenco to prepare an action plan for implementation and completion of additional 6,700 MW by 2014, to bridge the demand supply gap and meet the projected growth in demand.
Following a review meeting of the power sector, the Chief Minister was informed by Power Ministry officials and APGenco that the commissioning of 500 MW thermal power project at Vijayawada, 500 MW Kakatiya stage II, Rayalaseema stage II and Kothagudem State VI will be completed by November 2010.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, 500 MW coal-based plant Vijayawada State IV is slated for commissioning by the month end.
Other projects now under focus include 1,600 MW phase-I and 2,400 MW phase II at Odarevu, 700 MW gas-based power plant at Karimnagar, 1,400 MW hydel generating stations at Polavaram, Dummugudem and Kanthapalli and 600 MW coal-based power plant by Singareni Collieries Company Ltd.
Following dedicated natural gas supplies from the KG Basin fields of the Reliance Industries Ltd., all the gas-based stations with installed capacity of 2,800 MW are functioning at full capacity except Konaseema power unit.
