Patiala, January 19
Chairman of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) HS Brar has been nominated as member of the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission .

As per the notification issued in this regard by CERC secretary Alok Kumar, a copy of which is with The Tribune, the nomination will be
for a year.

It stated that the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission was looking forward to Brar’s guidance, pertaining to the discharge of statutory obligations by the commission.

Recently, the Punjab Government had given one-year extension to Brar as chairman PSEB.

After putting in 35 years of service, he retired as PSEB chief engineer, but replaced YS Ratra as board chairman in 2008.

In wake of the fact that the main objective of the Central Advisory Committee is to advise the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission on issues pertaining to policy, service provided by the licensee and protection of consumer interest, Brar’s nomination might prove to be helpful for the state in “pursuing” the matter of setting up nuclear power plant in the state.

The Punjab government in Punjab has been batting for a nuclear power plant in the state, in order to overcome the power crisis that it is facing presently.
