Commission (UPERC) on Friday gave its nod to UPPCL proposal to waive completely the surcharge levied on defaulting consumers. The scheme would come into application from February 8 and would last till March 31.
UPERC chairman, Rajesh Awasthi, in his order allowed the scheme for all categories of consumers except LMV-3 type (public lamps). Under the scheme, a consumer would be given a chance to deposit the pending bills, while waiving the surcharge.
While those erring on payment of Rs 10,000 would be asked to deposit the full payment, the ones erring on more than Rs 10,000 and up to Rs 50,000 would be required to pay a down payment of Rs 10,000 while the balance could be paid in two monthly instalments without surcharge.
Likewise, consumers defaulting on payment of Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh will have to make a down payment of Rs 20,000 and the balance payment will have to be made in four monthly instalments without surcharge. Finally, those erring on more than Rs 1 lakh would be required to make a down payment of Rs 30,000 while the balance payment will have to be done in maximum six monthly instalments without surcharge. The commission has directed that the dues be settled within seven days.
