Yamunanagar, February 25
The ongoing power crisis in the state further aggravated with the closure of the Unit II of 300 MW of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant (600 MW) here today.

The state has been facing a shortage of 100 lakh units as Unit II is said to be shut down for at least 15 days due to the excessive collection of ash in the electro static precipitators. Sources revealed that power consumption in the state had increased up to around 900 lakh units and there was a shortage of 100 lakh units every day in the state.

This is the second unit of a major thermal plant that has been shut down in the state as the Unit III of the super thermal plant, Panipat, has been shut down since December 29 due to turbine alignment problems. However, officials of the Yamunanagar thermal plant claimed that the Unit-I of the plant had been closed for the annual maintenance for 15 days. Besides, both the major thermal plants of the state, including Yamunanagar and super thermal plant in Panipat, have been facing an acute shortage of coal and come under super critical category. Only a day’s coal stock is left with the Yamunanagar thermal plant while the super thermal plant at Panipat has been left with four days of coal stock.
