Even as rural areas of Madhya Pradesh continue to reel under long hours of load-shedding, the State Government says it is hopeful that the electricity crisis will become a thing of the past by 2013.“Madhya Pradesh is going to be self-sufficient in power generation by 2013,” Energy Minister Rajendra Shukla told PTI in an interview. He claimed that the State’s installed power generation capacity was around 3,000 MW in 2003 during the Congress regime and it has gone up to 6,000 MW now after the BJP came to power.“What the Congress could not do in 50 years, we have done in just six years,” he claimed. He said in the next three years the State’s installed power generation capacity would go up by another 5,000 MW. “In 2013, the peak electricity demand is expected to be 11,000 MW and our installed power generation capacity will be the same,” he said.
