DVC Engineers oppose shifting of Koderma project to Raghunathpur

Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) Engineers’ Association has urged the Government of West Bengal and Jharkhand to stop the drainage of public money by DVC management who is going ahead with tendering process without formal decision of shifting of second stage of 2x660 MW supercritical power plants from Koderma (Jharkhand) to Raghunathpur (West Bengal)

PP Sah General Secretary of Association in a letter to Energy Secretaries of West Bengal and Jharkhand that DVC management is going ahead with the tendering process of 2nd. Phase of Raghunathpur thermal project without mandatory requirements.

The authorities have not completed the Environmental Impact Assessment and coal linkage with thermal plant which are directly related to viability of project.

PP Sah said that DVC board of directors is meeting on March 6, where a formal decision to transfer the expansion plan from Koderma to Raghunathpur is expected. The energy secretaries of Jharkhand and Bengal happen to be ex-officio members of theboard of directors.

It may be mentioned that DVC chairman Subrata Biswas had told state energy minister Raghubar Das that second-phase expansion of Koderma was not possible due to water scarcity and the DVC may shift the project to Raghunathpur.

A senior DVC engineer said that they have apprised the Jharkhand Government about the matter and it has been assured by them that they will take up the issue in boards meeting in right earnest and will write to Union Power Minister and approach the Prime Minister if there is need.
