Power situation grim in Haryana

CHANDIGARH: It would be a tough summer season ahead for the people of Haryana, if the present power scenario in the state is any indication. The imposition of 6 to 8 hour power cuts in the state has given a clear indication that power situation in the state would worsen in coming days.
The power position in Haryana has worsened with the increase in gap between demand and supply. The power availability from all the sources is 741 lakh units whereas demand has touched 935 lakh units.
The peak load demand power shortage during evening hours is 812 MW.
Three units of Panipat thermal plant are under shutdown Unit no 1 is under breakdown due to technical faults since March 1.There was fire in the turbine of unit no 2 due to oil leakage on March 14. According to sources the unit no 3 which is still under shutdown since December 29 is likely to be revived shortly.
At Yamunanagar 300 MW unit no 2 was closed on February 22 following excessive collection of ash in the Electro Static Precipitators of the unit was revived this week and is generating 180 MW today.
According to CEA the coal stock at 1360 MW Panipat Thermal Plant is 84000 MT which is sufficient for four days. The coal stock at Yamunanagar is 53000Mt and is sufficient for six days.
The daily coal requirement at Yamunanagar thermal plant is around 10000 MT where as it is 23200 MT for Panipat thermal plant.
