ALLAHABAD: In protest against the handing of the power supply in Agra to a private company, power employees under the aegis of Uttar Pradesh Bijli Karmachari Sangh boycotted work on Wednesday and held a meeting outside the main power house here.

Addressing the meeting, leaders of the employees' union said the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) would sell electricity to the private company at the rate of Rs 1.80 paise per unit while it would purchase the same at the rate of Rs 4 per unit. The resulting loss of Rs 2.20 paise per unit would be realised from the consumers, they said.

In addition, the necessary infrastructure including building, sub-station, transmission lines and transformers are being given to the said company without charging any money which amounts to cheating the public by state government, the leaders alleged.

They added that repair work remained affected owing to the ongoing strike and announced holding a meeting at George Town office. They also warned of further boycott
