Ludhiana: With the increase in electricity duty from 10 per cent to 13 per cent, consumers will have to pay 80 paise per unit tax from April 1 onwards with enhanced power tarrif. This tax includes octroi duty as well. It was 67 paise before the hike. Apex Chamber of Commerce and Industry president P D Sharma said, “We had asked the government to make it vattable but it increased the duty. The PSEB is fast heading towards bankruptcy because of non-payment of subsidy amount on account of free power by the state government. Hence, to meet the expenses, taxes are being increased.”
