Chandigarh: All India Power Engineers Association (AIPEF) has urged the Punjab Government to refrain from undemocratic repressive measures against employees who are opposing unbundling of PSEB.

Shaliender Dubey Secretary General AIPEF has written letter to Chief Minister Punjab not to use repressive measures as in long run Government has to run the show with their help He was pointing to media reports that mentioned Punjab Government has asked the police force to face striking PSEB staff as ifemployees are enemies. He has requested the state government to take employees and engineers in confidence to run the power system efficiently in the larger interest of Punjab.

Shaliender Dubey said that unbundling/privatization of state electricity boards in many states has not yielded any positive result, rather due to lack of coordination between various functions like. Generation, Transmission & Distribution of electricity and increased bureaucratic interference has resulted into increased losses. Orissa, Delhi, U.P., Rajasthan, M.P. are some glaring examples. He urged against any hasty decision to unbundle PSEB.

Dubey further said that even if corporatisation of PSEB is required then it should be restructured with Generation, Transmission and Distribution in one unit with a separate Trading Company as has been done by Kerala and HP. Integrated utility will prove to be more efficient and useful.
