PSEB mgmt stays after unbundling?

RUPNAGAR:

The Punjab government is likely to retain the pres- ent Punjab State Electricity Board management in the com- panies to be formed after unbundling.

According to sources, the government has buckled under pressure of the PSEB man- agement and amended service conditions for the posts of Managing Directors and Directors of unbundled com- panies.

According to the report of the consultants, the maximum age for the post of Director should be 58 years and for CEO and Executive Director 60 years. There was much pres- sure on the government to waive off this condition.

The memorandum submit- ted by the Chief Secretary regarding the maximum qual- ifying age was in line with the consultants' report. According to sources, the age relaxation and other service conditions have been amended suitably to adjust the incumbents.

It may be mentioned that nowhere in country is the upper age limit beyond 60 years for any services.

The post of Director HRD in Powercom is likely to be retained by the present Administrative Member, though the consultants had recom- mended an MBA as the mini- mum qualification for the post.

According to sources, the Managing Director of Generation and Distribution Company (Powercom) is like- ly to be PSEB Chairman H.S.
Brar.

There will be a Director Operation (Distribution), Director Material Procurement, Director Thermal Generation, Director HRD, Director Finance (Distribution) and Director Finance (Generation).

Transmission company Transco, which is likely to be headed by PSEB Member Transmission S.C. Sabharwal, will have Director Operation (Transmission), Director HRD and Director Finance and Accounts.

There is no clarity on the commercial side -- weather it is to be headed by the Director or Chief Engineer.

In the present PSEB setup, Chairman H.S. Brar, Member Generation G.S. Sra and Member Transmission S.C.
Sabharwal have already crossed the age of 60.

Member Distribution K.D.
Chaudhary has also crossed the age of 58 years.

PSEB engineers are report- edly disturbed over these devel- opments and may work out a revised strategy to deal with the situation.
