RUPNAGAR:
A day before its unbundling, the Punjab State Electricity Board issued appointment letters to 125 assistant engineers (on training).
According to sources, the letters have been issued on the intervention of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The posts of assistant engi- neer were advertised in January 2009 and the test for the same was conducted nine months later. The selections were made in October. However, the engineers were not given appoint- ment letters. The PSEB man- agement did not cite any rea- son for the delay.
The PSEB Engineers Association had taken up the matter with Badal and sought his intervention for issuing appointment letters to the engi- neers as 500 sub stations and operation divisions were with- out engineers, which could cre- ate problems during the paddy sowing season.
With the issuance of appoint- ment letters, their service con- ditions would also be protect- ed in the unbundled PSEB like that of other employees.
