P Uma Shankar is new Power Secretary

NEW DELHI: P Uma Shankar Chairman Rural Electrification Corporation took over as new Union power secretary on Friday. He has succeeded Hari Shankar Brahma who superannuated on April 30.

P Uma Shankar is a 1976 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer from Tamil Nadu. He was chairman of Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) since March 2008. He recently steered cleared the REC successful IPO.

He holds a master’s degree in Mathematics from IIT, Chennai and in social policy and planning from London School of Economics. Earlier he was the managing director of National Cooperative Development Corporation
