Chandigarh, May 15: Haryana Power Utilities have over drawn power from northern grid worth Rs. 140 crores in April this year to make up the less power generation from its own sources.

According to NRLDC the schedule power drawl of Haryana for the month of April was 6930 lakh units whereas it actually drew 8738 lakh units. The over drawl was 1807 lakh units and its cost was 123.58 crores. Further since a number of times the power was drawn at prohibitive frequency an additional amount of Rs. 16.74 crores was charged raising total power over drawl cost to Rs. 140.32 crores.

The main reason for power over drawl was less generation from unit 2 of Yamuna Nagar thermal plant 300 MW Yamuna Nagar Thermal Plant unit no. 2 is running at less than 60 percent capacity for the last more than two months due to problem of emitting electrodes in Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) of unit.

According to official figures the plant load factor of unit 56.78 percent in April this year whereas unit no. 1 is running at more than 90 percent load factor. The average daily generation on a daily basis is around 40 lakh units per day against expected generation of 72 lakh units per day.

A senior thermal plant official said that the unit would continue to run at less than 60 percent of its capacity for the next three months.

The stage 1 units of Panipat thermal plant are also running at less than its capacity. Moreover the frequent breakdown of units is adding to problems .Unit no. 1 is under shut down since March 1 whereas unit no. 4 is under shutdown from April 20.

Khedar thermal unit was expected to give relief after its commissioning on March 31 but the unit is having teething problems. Most of the time it remained under shut down due to boiler leakage.

The power shortage in state is around 150 lakh units daily whereas the supply is around 800 lakh units .Haryana was today generating 1423 MW from its own sources three units of Panipat stage I are under shut down and onlyunit no. 3 is running
