PATIALA:

Uma Kant Panda, the Director, Finance, of the newly set up power transmission utility in Punjab, Transco, has refused to join as the appoint- ment letter has service con- ditions which have been altered.

As against the offered tenure of two years when appli- cations were invited, the appointment letter offers a term of one year, that too with conditions.

As per reports, Panda, who is Director, Finance in Gridco, Orissa, in a communiqué to Principal Secretary, Power, Arun Goyal, said he would join only if offered a term of three years.

All the directors and CMDs of both the companies -- ower- com and Transco -- have been appointed for a year.

The incumbent would be given extension based on performance and in case it is not up to the mark, the one-year term could also be cut short.

Apart from two CMDs, there are six posts of directors in Powercom and two in Transco.

“It has come as a shock that what was offered to us was not given. It seems we have been recruited as work-charged employees who can be shown the door any day,“ comment- ed a Powercom official recent- ly appointed on the post of director.

Also, the government is still not able to decide on who fills the post of Director, Commercial. K.K. Singla, a retired Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) chief engineer, and Surinder Pal, a power department chief engi- neer in Chandigarh, are in the race.
