Cancel award for power plant: Medha
CHANDIGARH
Quantcast: Social activist and Narmada Bachao Andolan architect Medha Patkar has requested Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to withdraw the award of gold shield medal given to Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) for early commissioning of the 600 MW Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Station at Yamunanagar.
In a letter to the PM last month, Patkar said the award given for early commissioning for the year 2008-09 was “not justified“ and needed to be withdrawn. The award was given even though the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) had passed adverse comments in its order of May 18, 2009, regarding delayed commissioning of the power station, she wrote.
Besides, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India had in its audit report of 2008-09 had pointed out delayed commissioning and resulting losses.
“I have not received any response from the Prime Minister so far,“ Patkar told HT on being contacted.
Union Power Minister S.K.
Shinde had given the award to HPGCL at a function in Delhi on January 29, 2010.
