KURUKSHETRA: The power position in Haryana has worsened following closure of two thermal units at Panipat.

The villagers of Lohara village near Kurukshetra not only locked the sub station but also switched off the supply to near by villages. They were protesting against the inadequate power supply saying that they were getting only 4 hour supply. They had given 6 acres of land free to power utility for the substation on the condition of 24 hour supply.

The blockade was lifted after more than two hours on the intervention of police authorities
The power demand in Haryana is around 1250 lakh units whereas the power availability from all the sources is 1130 lakh units .The shortage of 120 lakh units has forced the power utilities to impose more than 4 hour cuts in the major cities.

In Panipat unit no 4 and 6 of thermal plant producing total of 320 MW are under shut down due to technical faults. 600 Hissar thermal plant unit which is under trial run is down for the last ten days. The unit was giving 140 lakh units daily when running on full load. Unit no. 1 At Panipat is down since March 1.

The thermal units are providing 438 lakh units. The state is overdrawing 112 lakh units from grid. The scheduled drawl is 535 lakh units whereas it is drawing 681 lakh units.

At Yamunanagar 300 MW unit no 2 is running on half load due to excessive collection of ash in the Electro Static Precipitators of the unit.

The higher generation from BBMB power houses due to increased water level is only the redeeming factor this year. According to sources the water level in Bhakra reservoir is 498.74 meters against last year level of .482.74 meters. The inflow is 2904 cumecs whereas outflow is 795 cumecs only.
