Record 12160 MW power generation capacity added in 2010-11
India has achieved the commissioning of a record power generation capacity of 12,160 MW in 2010-11, union Power Ministry said in a statement.

THE POWER Ministry further claimed that another 3,635 MW worth of projects have been synchronised recently but these projects are yet to achieve full load. The total capacity addition this year works out to be 15795 MW.

The official target was to add 21441 MW in year 2010-11, which shows that there is still a shortfall despite adding record capacity.

The Planning Commission had revised the target of 78,700 MW capacity addition in the five year plan period to 62,000 MW, but around 33000 MW power has been added to the grid so for in the five year plan period.

The prominent companies that added to power capacity include NTPC, APGENCO, HPGCL, Sterlite and Lanco.

5123 MW capacity has been added by the private sector in the financial year, which is 42 per cent of total capacity addition. NTPC added 2490 MW of thermal generation in country.
