THE EXECUTIVE committee of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Engineers Association in its emergency meeting decided to launch an agitation from May 3 against state government's decision to recruit engineers on contract and failure to take up at least one thermal plant departmentally.

HS Bedi President of Association said that needs of power sector are different from other government departments. The recruitment of assistant engineers on contract basis is not in the interest of state or Powercom. Further, government has not announced any thermal project in public sector despite assurances given by Chief Minister in this regard.

The compliance of tripartite agreement is not being made. The payment of arrears has been pending.

Bedi said that regional protest meetings shall be held from 25 April to 30 April. This will be followed by wearing of black badges on May 3. The protest marches would be held at zonal level on May 20. The representatives of people will be briefed by the association representatives against the ill effects of moves of state government.

In case of failure of state government to fulfill its promises the agitation would be intensified.
