Plea against power generation policy: HC notice to Punjab
RUPNAGAR:
The Punjab and Haryana high court has issued notice to the Punjab government for July 27 on a public interest litigation seeking striking-down of its impugned power generation policy.
In his petition, a retired power engineer, Sukhninder Singh, said the abandonment of the policy of awarding thermal projects to the lowest bidder was against state's interests. Under the impugned generation policy, issued on June 21 last year, any developer can set up a thermal project in Punjab through the memorandum of understanding (MoU) route, wherein the tariff is to be decided by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission under cost-plus approach. Singh said the policy could not be implemented within the framework of Electricity Act, 2003. HTC
