CENTRAL ELECTRICITY Authority (CEA) has anticipated that the power shortage and peak hour shortages in the country would be 10.3 per cent and 12.9 per cent respectively during 2011-12, an increase of 0.2 per cent.
CEA in its annual Load Generation Balance Report has assessed power demand in country at 933741 million units against availability of 837374 million units. The peak load demand in the country will be 136193 Mw against projected availability of 118676 MW. The power availability includes likely power availability from new projects coming in the ongoing financial year.
CEA has further anticipated that in the northern region the energy deficient would be 10. 9 per cent and peak load shortages will be 11.9 per cent. The energy shortage in Punjab would be 14.1 per cent while it is 6.0 per cent in Haryana. Peak load shortage in Punjab would be 20.5 per cent whereas Haryana has peak load shortage of 6.9 per cent.
The power shortage in Punjab would be 6928 million units with peak load shortage of 2021 MW. In case of Haryana power shortage would be 2152 million units with peak load shortage of 450 MW.
Load Generation Balance Report (LGBR) for the ongoing financial year 2011-12 projects worth 17,191 MW capacities are likely to be commissioned. This capacity comprises of 14,111 MW worth of thermal power projects, 2,080 MW of hydroelectric projects (HEPs) and 1000 MW of nuclear power schemes. However, there is no power project coming up in Punjab and Haryana in this year to take off the load from the city.
