`NO DEMAND', 8 THERMAL POWER UNITS SHUT DOWN
RUPNAGAR:

Eight thermal power units in the state, producing more than 1500 MW, have been closed due to “no demand“, thanks to showers in the region.
There are a total of 13 thermal units in Punjab.

Sources said the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) had closed units 2, 3, 4 and 5 of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant, Rupnagar, each of 210-MW capacity.

Two units at Lehra Mohabbat, producing 460 MW, and two at the Bathinda thermal plant (110-MW capacity each) have also been shut down.

Sources said PSPCL had made costly power purchase agreements at the behest of politicians to avoid power cuts in the election year. HTC
