POWERCOM SPARES THE POWERFUL
BATHINDA:
Theft of electricity is keeping Powercom in poor fiscal health, yet the body has failed to act against dominant violators.
Two year ago, Powercom began moving the electricity meters of all consumers outside the homes but it spared some “influential“ power stealers such as bureaucrats and politicians.
The meters of the dominant continue to be inside their houses, and many of them continue to run ACs and other and high-voltage gadgets on stolen energy.
Sources in Powercom say they've shifted over 60% meters outside consumers' homes in the western zone but none of consumers covered is a politician, bureaucrat, police officer, or senior government employee.
Officially, there is no power theft case against any senior bureaucrat, though details secured under RTI reveal how many bureaucrats misuse their power and pass on their power bills to the government. HTC
