Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has proposed tariffs for power to be purchased by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited(PSPCL) from different types of renewable energy projects to provide such sources a boost.

Earlier, PSERC made generation and consumption of renewable energy mandatory for Punjab Energy Development Authority (PEDA) and PSPCL, respectively.

PSERC has recommended that PSPCL and PEDA must make arrangements for 2.4 per cent consumption from renewable sources in 2011-12, 2.9 per cent in 2012-13, 3.5 per cent in 2013-14 and 4 per cent in 2014-15.

As per PSERC staff paper, for biomass power projects, the commission has proposed tariff of Rs 5.25 per unit.

For non-fossil fuel based cogeneration projects, the tariff would be Rs 4.72 per unit. For small hydro-projects up to 5 MW capacities, the tariff would be Rs 3.94 per unit.

For projects with capacity between 5 to 25 MW, the proposed tariff is Rs 3.34 per unit.
