Lanco wins coal block, power plant bid in Chhattisgarh

Chennai: Lanco Infratech said on Wednesday it has emerged as the sucessful bidder as a mine developer for a coal block in Chhattisgarh which belongs to Maha Tamil Collieries. Lanco also said it will also develop a 2,000 mw power project associated with the coal block.
The Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra governments have formed a joint venture company, Maha-Tamil Collieries (Maha-Tamil), to develop a mine allocated to them by the coal ministry at the Gare Pelma-II coal block, a coal reserve of about 768 million tonne in Chhattisgarh.
The JV company between Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation and Maharashtra State Mining Corporation will develop, generate and share power. To develop the Gare Pelma-II coal block, Maha-Tamil Collieries has engaged Mineral Exploration Corporation, Nagpur, for undertaking the detailed exploration of the coal block. Besides, the JV company has also selected Lanco Infratech for underaking mining the coal from the Gare Pelma-II coal block and set up an on-site thermal power plant.
