PPP leader Manpreet Singh Badal has opposed the state government's proposal to close down Guru Nanak Dev thermal plant, Bathinda, stating that the party would launch an agitation, if required, to stall the move.
Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, he said he saw no reason why the plant needed to be shut down. “It is illogical. We won't let it happen,“ he said.
Manpreet said the PPP would stage a dharna in Gobindpura village on August 27 to protest “forcible“ land acquisition.
“Governments have to requisition land for public purposes, but there should be a fair and transparent policy keeping in mind the land owners' interests,“ he said, claiming that the deputy CM was misleading the masses.
Predicting a turnaround in state politics after the assembly polls, Manpreet said what was happening in Libya could happen in Punjab also. “I want to remind the CM that the dictatorial rule in Libya is nearing an end and it is all due to the public outcry,“ he said, maintaining that in Punjab, too, a revolution of sorts was on the cards
