Power Engineers condemn suspension of Executive Engineer

Haryana Power Engineers Association has condemned the suspension of Executive Engineer Kurukshetra an - upright officer - allegedly, under political pressure.
IT MAY be mentioned that an executive engineer was suspended on September 6 in public interest though there has been not even a single complaint in last three years. Daljit Singh General Secretary of Association said that Gian Chand, Executive Engineer, is a most dedicated engineer who brought down commercial losses in operation division to around 9.33 percent, which is the lowest in any division of power utility. These losses were 12.53 % and 15.81 % in the last two year respectively. During 2006-07 these losses were 33.10 %. The collection efficiency of the Division has been more than 100% for last two years. The division is amongst best divisions of power utility.
According to sources, the executive engineer ordered the disconnection of domestic meter of a consumer whose defaulting amount had reached more than Rs. 80000/. The consumer happened to be an ex-MLA, who recently joined the ruling party. He got annoyed as the line staff went to his house for disconnecting the electricity supply. He subsequently made a complaint against the executive engineer.
It may be mentioned that numerous appreciation letters have been issued to Gian Chand by District Administration and Power Utility UHBVN during the last three years for his commendable work in Kurukshetra. There had been a public outcry against his suspension and a number of delegates have met the local MP Naveen Jindal, and demanded his reinstatement at the earliest. Association has also sought immediate cancellation of his suspension orders.
