govt to blame for
PSPCL losses, says Capt Amarinder
PATIALA: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday blamed the Akali-BJP government in the state for the recurring losses of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) that threaten to push it to bankruptcy with a cumulative loss of about Rs 10,000 crore during the last four years.
Capt Amarinder, in a communication sent here on Saturday, said, it was mainly the Akali-BJP government that has to be blamed for the mess. He maintained that the state government has not been providing money for the power subsidy that PSPCL has been providing to various sections.
The former Chief Minister pointed out that during his tenure, his government ensured that the Punjab State Electricity Board (as PSPCL was known then) would get the entire amount of subsidy given to various sections of people. “But this government while continuing with the subsidy has not compensated the PSPCL with the result that the losses have mounted”, he said and added, the way situation was developing in the PSPCL, it would soon be faced with serious financial crisis and may not even be able to meet its day to day expenses.
The PCC President stated, either the state government was adjusting the power subsidy amount with the pending loans of the PSPCL or was delaying the release of the power subsidy.DP
