Central Electricity Authorit (CEA), in its latest report, has reported that power generation has increased and Lehra Mohabatt thermal plant, which lies between Barnala and Bathinda in Punjab, has exceeded 100% PLF for the second consecutive month.
THE LEHRA Mohabatt Thermal plant in the state sector exceeded 100% Plant Load Factor (PLF) for the second consecutive month as the country exceeded its electricity generation targets for the month of November.
The Central Electricity Authority in its latest report claimed that the monthly generation during November was 71033 million units (MU), which was 101.95% of the program. The thermal generation during the month has exceeded the program by 779 MU on account of improved supply of coal. In the northern region, the generation from thermal plants exceeded its monthly target by 11.93% due to better availability of coal.

M R Parihar Chief Engineer Lehra Mohabatt Thermal plant in Punjab, and said that the plant has achieved more than 100 % PLF for the second consecutive month. The PLF for the month of November is 101.31% whereas the same was 103.14% in October.

The availability of coal for power sector continued to be critical input for thermal generation growth. Thermal stations received about 33 million tons (MT) of coal against the requirement of 37.9 MT during November. The coal stock of 48 thermal plants was critical (less than 7days) on 30th November’2011. Out of these 29 TPS were having coal stock of less than 4 days.

The PLF of thermal stations during November also improved to 74.45%. The PLF percentage of the central sector stations during same period was 83.01%. However, the plant load factor of Independent Private Producers (IPPs) was 69.60%.

It may be mentioned that seven coal based thermal plants achieved PLF of more than 100% during November. These are Lehra Mohabbat (920 MW), Dahanu TPS (500 MW), OP Jindal TPS (1000 MW), SIPAT STPS (1660 MW), and Torangallu TPS (260 MW), Singraulli TPS (2000 MW) and Kota TPS (1240 MW).
