6 thermal units in Punjab trip due to foggy conditions

There was partial grid failure in Punjab due to foggy conditions tripping 6 thermal units and a number of transmission lines.
MANY PARTS of Punjab were plunged into darkness in the wee hours today as four running thermal units at Lehra Mohabatt and 2 units at Bhatinda tripped at 3.30 am. The transmission lines in Dhuri, Mansa and Barnala area started tripping one after the other just after midnight due to foggy conditions.

According to Chief Engineer 2 thermal units at Lehra Mohabatt have been revived in the afternoon. Another unit is expected to be revived late in evening. Fourth unit has been closed due to boiler leakage.

Punjab was not drawing its scheduled share from grid due to non-revival of transmission system. A senior official associated with Powercom said that tripping of units could have been avoided if timely report about transmission lines outage was received from Transco.
