PSPCL launches scheme to regularise unauthorised load

HT Correspondent

JALANDHAR: To check the use of unauthorised load by the consumers, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has introduced a voluntarily disclosure scheme (VDS). The scheme has been introduced for the consumers using domestic and non-residential supply (NRS).
With this scheme, PSPCL has given an opportunity to the consumers of these categories to regularise their unauthorized load. The scheme would be available for three months from March 12 to June 11.

PSPCL north zone deputy chief engineer ML Thapar said it had been observed that many consumers covered under domestic and non-residential supply extended their load by installing new electrical equipment like AC, fridge, etc., but they did not regularize it.

He added that this affected the working of PSPCL as it did not come to know about the extended load.

The existing system remains overloaded due to unauthorised

load and this leads to power breakdown.
As a result, consumers suffer and the PSPCL also has to work hard to restore the power breakdown.

The deputy chief engineer said though the department conducted special raids and penalised consumers using unauthorised load, under Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS), there will be no checking of connected load and PSPCL would also not impose penalty for unauthorised extension in load disclosed voluntarily.

He said the department through this scheme was encouraging consumers to come forward to regularise their unauthorised load and save themselves from getting penalised.

The consumers under this scheme can regularise their load by paying nominal charges and the procedure is also easy.

Under this scheme, the consumers shall be allowed to extend their load under VDS subject to the condition that the total load after extension will not exceed 100 kilowatt.
