PSPCL to explore high-tech energy saving solution

The company was told to conduct field trials before finalising the proposal
PATIALA: Power crisis in Punjab looms large for a couple of days to come as one unit of the Ropar Thermal Plant tripped on Wednesday. One of the units of the Ropar Thermal Plant has already been closed till June 16 for annual maintenance. This led to a shortfall of power in the generation system leading to cuts of varying duration in several towns. According to sources in the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, the authorities at the Ropar Thermal Plant were in the process of attending to the technical fault in Unit III. Each of these units has a generation capacity of 210 MW.

In view of the shortfall of power from the Ropar Thermal Plant, there are power cuts likely in the towns of Ropar, Ludhiana, Mandi Gobindgarh and Mohali. Sources in the PSPCL disclosed that the total power availability was 1467 lakh units and there was shortage of 27 lakh units. The PSPCL has as of now a total thermal generation 467 lakh units.

Punjab has a peak load shortage of 600 MW of power even though it has been trying to purchase power from other states. The power overdrawal from grid as of now was pegged at 27 lakh units. These sources said that the demand for power had gone up due to the severe heat wave.
Energy saving company gives presentation to Dy CM, aims to save Rs 800 crore

Mzaya Pvt Ltd - an energy saving solution firm, presented a Powermatics solution for Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. The solution, company claimed, could save up to Rs 800 crore per year to the Corporation.

Company director Manyata Dutt, along with her Bollywood star husband Sanjay Dutt gave a presentation to Deputy CM at a meeting in which Secretary Power Anirudh Tiwari and Managing Director PSPCL KD Chaudhary were also present here.

The company said the Powermatics solution would increase the efficiency and optimize the current infrastructure increase in the power availability in the state. It claimed that Powermatics was the dynamic forecasting and optimising system that would help to procure, schedule and optimise power for different parts of the state.

Manyata said the adaptive intelligence system based statistical models generate forecast system. She informed that it takes into account various complex factors affecting future loads, transmission corridors etc. This system was currently extensively being used in North America, Europe, Japan and South Korea, informed she.

Company director informed that Powermatics will improve spot-exchange-UI prize realisation for net contributors and sellers as compared to unscheduled interchange pool and spot market.

Manyat said this solution will reduce the procurement cost and benefiting the consumer by providing them power at reduced price. She said the solution would reduce congestion charges and reduce power outages.

The Deputy Chief Minister asked the PSPCL to study the success of Powermatics in those states where it was presently being run and explore the possibility of solution for Punjab.
